Why I Believe Seeing the World Brings Us Closer Together
I have always believed that travel has the power to change us.
Not necessarily in some grand, life-altering way. Sometimes the change is quieter. A conversation with someone whose life looks nothing like our own. A meal around a table where we don't speak the same language. Watching an artist work in a tiny studio. Sailing into a harbor and seeing a place slowly reveal itself from the water.
These experiences stay with us.
They remind us that while the world is wonderfully diverse, we are often far more alike than we imagine.
Travel Has Always Been Personal for Me
My own love of travel began on the water.
I grew up sailing aboard a beautiful classic sailboat. We were a family of seven—five children and a mom and dad who shared their love of the sea with us as we sailed the waters of New England.
Looking back, those journeys taught me something I didn't have words for at the time.
The magic wasn't simply in where we went.
It was everything we experienced along the way.
Years later, that belief became part of the inspiration behind my first travel company, Arts and Cultural Travel. I had the privilege of designing experiential journeys with wonderfully talented artists and groups of curious travelers.
We created art. We explored. We ate together. We met local people. We learned.
And somewhere along the way, strangers often became friends.
I saw again and again that travel has an extraordinary ability to create connection.
Curiosity Changes the Way We See the World
I believe one of the greatest gifts of travel is curiosity.
When we arrive somewhere new with an open mind, we begin asking questions.
How do people live here?
What do they eat?
What do they celebrate?
What are they creating?
What traditions have been passed from one generation to another?
And perhaps most importantly:
What can we learn from one another?
Travel invites us beyond what is familiar. It challenges assumptions and gives us the opportunity to experience another culture rather than simply observe it.
We return home seeing the world—and sometimes ourselves—a little differently.
To me, that's empowering.
Travel Can Connect Us
We live in a world that can sometimes feel incredibly divided.
Travel gives us an opportunity to experience something different.
We sit at the same tables.
Walk the same streets.
Listen to one another's stories.
Laugh together.
Share food.
Admire something beautiful together.

And suddenly the person who once felt like a stranger isn't quite so unfamiliar anymore.
Travel reminds us of our shared humanity.
I believe those small moments of connection matter.
Perhaps they matter now more than ever.
Why I Believe in Traveling a Little Differently
It's also why I am drawn to a slower, more intimate way of exploring the world.
Small ships that slip into harbors larger vessels cannot reach.
River journeys that carry us through the heart of a region.
Sailing voyages where the landscape unfolds gradually from the water.

Beautiful barges drifting through the countryside.
And time before or after a voyage to wander, taste, meet, learn and discover.
The ship may take us there.
But The Crafted Voyage is about everything we experience along the way.
A market visit with a local chef.
A vineyard lunch that stretches into the afternoon.
A conversation with an artist in their studio.
A hike through an extraordinary landscape.
A restorative morning by the sea.
Or simply sharing a beautiful meal with people whose company makes the experience even richer.
Those are the moments I want to help create.
And Sometimes, the People We Travel With Are Part of the Journey
This belief is also at the heart of The Crafted Gatherings.
Some journeys are simply better shared.
Friends celebrating a milestone. Generations of a family traveling together. Artists gathering to create. Colleagues stepping away from their everyday lives. Or a group of people connected by a profession, passion or shared curiosity.
The reason for gathering may be different.
But something wonderful happens when people experience the world together.
We connect.
With a place.
With the people who call it home.
With one another.
And occasionally, with a part of ourselves we haven't heard from in a while.
This Is Why I Travel
The Crafted Voyage was born from many years in travel, but also from something much simpler:
A lifelong curiosity about this beautiful world and the people who inhabit it.
I want to travel in ways that allow us to look a little closer.
To linger a little longer.
To taste, create, wander, listen and learn.
Because I believe travel can empower us.
I believe curiosity can change our perspective.
And I believe connection—however small—has the power to bring us closer together.
Travel that inspires curiosity, creates connection and reminds us just how much we share.
That's the kind of travel I believe in.
